The Street Walkability and Thermal Comfort Index (SWTCI): A new assessment tool combining street design measurements and thermal comfort

چکیده

In recent years, walkability is increasingly integrated into sustainability strategies, considering its many health and environmental benefits. Besides, thermal comfort also has been progressively promoted as a critical measure for pedestrian wellbeing. Despite the relevance of two concepts, few studies combined them in comprehensive model. This study considers assessing by developing new measurement tool, Street Walkability Thermal Comfort Index (SWTCI), which focuses on facilities Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET), at street scale. The applied point system method requires combining questionnaire survey, observations, situ measurements (air temperature, wind velocity, relative humidity). survey (330 responders) measured 21 design indicators' importance, using five-point Likert scale ranging from 1 (least important) to 5 (very important). observation technique seeks evaluate every indicator score (Sis). permit Envi-met's calibrated data validation getting mean radian temperature (Tmrt). Those were considered PET's calculation Rayman software. Three distinct streets have chosen Annaba city, Algeria, within Mediterranean climate (Csa). results show that SWTCI achieves highest three when perception neutral (20 < PET <26), lowest score, with warm sensation (28 31). divergence values, was 33%, reflecting low quality minimal facilities. Applying can transform uncomfortable an ideal walkable pleasant path finding problems proposing improvements.

Thermal comfort assessment in comfort-prone workplaces.

This paper's main issue is a strong advocacy in favour of an a priori classification of thermal environments that can be really functional to comfort assessment: Class 1, environments where comfort conditions can be established (comfort-prone environments), and Class 2, environments where this is not practically feasible. The former, which are also identified here as 'thermally unconstrained' e...

Thermal Comfort and Productivity

This paper discusses the link between thermal comfort and productivity of office workers and presents some limited conclusions from a European field study of office buildings. The importance of productivity measurement and current methodologies of measurement are discussed and shortcomings highlighted. The paper concludes with an introduction to a new technology developed in Japan that may prov...

Thermal comfort: research and practice.

Thermal comfort--the state of mind, which expresses satisfaction with the thermal environment--is an important aspect of the building design process as modern man spends most of the day indoors. This paper reviews the developments in indoor thermal comfort research and practice since the second half of the 1990s, and groups these developments around two main themes; (i) thermal comfort models a...
